Some of these coffees may come from special farms, use experimental processing techniques, unique typicas, or just have an extremely special flavor or character. "Peaberry coffee beans are the product of a natural mutation that causes some coffee cherries to produce only one bean instead of two. Only about 5-10% of a harvest results in peaberries. Carefully sorted from the standard "flat" beans, these small beans are rounder and denser, and often thought to have superior flavor, since they had no twin to share nutrients with while growing.
These peaberries have been carefully roasted to accentuate their complex flavor profile, with sweet and crisp notes of spicy chocolate.
These Tanzania BCT Select Peaberries are sourced from a group of 235 family-owned farms located in the Mbozi district within the Songwe region of Tanzania. Producers harvest and deliver cherries to a centralized processing station where the coffee is depulped, fermented, washed, and dried. The aggregate processing stations provide producers with a centrally located facility that can process coffee more consistently and ensure better quality, which results in better prices from the international market"
